DISCOVERY MUSEUM
The previous branding for the Bay Area Discovery Museum wasn’t reflecting the playful and interactive joy that could be experienced at the museum. A new brand strategy, visual identity, and website were designed to let the audience know that of all of the options for kids in the Bay Area, this was one not to miss.

CHALLENGE
The Bay Area Discovery Museum is a much loved, interactive and learning space for kids. Their previous Brand Strategy and Visual Identity, however, didn’t reflect the dynamic and exciting space or exhibits offered by the museum. They needed to evolve their branding to better reflect the joy of the museum experience and to let parents know the Bay Area Discovery Museum is worth a visit.
APPROACH
Located right on the Bay, the museum is highly interactive and features incredible physical spaces to explore. This became a persistent theme that was vital to express in their full Visual Identity. Custom, handcut letters were designed to evoke the sense of the joy in making a playful mess. The center ‘O’ became a cog to indicate and invite interactive engagement. Lastly, I created a color palette inspired by the Bay Area with Golden Gate red, California orange, and Bay Area blues - all vibrant so their new identity would reflect the energy of the museum experience.
RESULT
The new Visual Identity was applied to every touchpoint of the brand including the exhibit and way-finding signage, print material, and social platforms. This project also included a full website redesign and development.
The new branding was received with full enthusiasm through social engagement and incredible feedback from museum visitors.
PLAYFUL MUSEUM, INNOVATIVE WEBSITE
The Bay Area Discovery Museum is an experience full of joy and interactivity. Their new website had to exude this experience. With so many options for parents and kids in the Bay Area, the sense of joy needed to be felt when parents are first searching their next great weekend adventure.
The design was given a fully innovative approach with organic shapes, a unique homepage design with vertical animations, quirky but iconic illustrations, and a vertical menu to allow for big imagery. All of this works to put the viewer in the space so they leave their screen excited about what they’ll be discovering at the
Bay Area Discover Museum.
